Fife’s Prehistoric Past
Fife’s geological story began over 400 million years ago but it is the environmental changes over the past 20 thousand yeas that is the focus for this project. Following last glacial maximum the ice retreated west about 16 thousand years ago and local sea levels fell to reveal a productive coastal landscape. The primary goal of this sub-project is to reconstruct these changes and reveal the landscape that people returned to as it became habitable.
